Bio Vintage Dutch
Vintage Dutch is a vibrant Jazz, Soul, and Funk ensemble from the Netherlands, born in 2019 through the vision of Paul Jonker, known from The Tibbs and Elsa Bekman. With nearly two decades of experience in the music scene and a history rich in playing with various bands, Jonker felt it was time to embark on a new challenge. His aim: to form a band that would express his unique musical vision.
This vision took shape when Paul Jonker met Kim Berger, a singer renowned for her soulful voice and expressive stage presence. After encountering Berger, Jonker knew that Vintage Dutch was ready to step into the limelight and elevate their musical prowess.
Our music is an eclectic blend of jazz, soul, and funk - the genres that make our hearts beat faster and with which we grew up. But Vintage Dutch is more than just a band; it's a community, a connection between us and the wider world. Soul and jazz music are meant to be shared, danced to, and enjoyed, and this ethos is at the heart of our mission.
Drawing inspiration from legends like Sharon Jones, Billie Holiday, and James Brown, we're committed to creating our own unique mark in the music world. While we pay homage to classic soul, we strive not to be merely an echo of the past. We're constantly evolving our style, seeking fresh and surprising ways to invigorate the genre.
After a year of intensive rehearsing and performing both nationally and internationally, Vintage Dutch released their debut album "In My Own Voice" in October 2021. The album was warmly received, praised for its distinctive sound and the fusion of classic soul with contemporary influences.
But our journey is far from over. Currently, we're in the throes of recording our second album, set to release later this year. We are determined to elevate our music to new heights and continue to astonish our audience with our unique sound and dynamic live performances.
We play soul, but we pinch, we steal, and we play freely, like a jazz cat.
